I have researched MLM since first joining Amway as a University undergraduate in Melbourne in 1978. I was certified a Franklin Trainer/ Consultant for the Hong Kong market in Salt Lake City in 1992. Franklin later merged with Stephen Covey, author of “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” fame, and became FranklinCovey.
Stephen Covey, Nu Skin, and Franklin founders were obviously Mormons (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints).
Franklin supplied the Daily Planner which is part of the Nu Skin Starter Kit. Therefore, my biggest client I was servicing was Nu Skin Hong Kong which I joined as a pioneer Distributor in Hong Kong (the first Nu Skin distributor country outside USA) a year earlier.
That’s when I discovered Mormons will help and buy from each other in their businesses as they want to keep their money within the greater Mormon family. This Mormon member business support is in everything Mormons do – no different from Jews helping and buying from Jews.
No different from Muslims buying and supporting other Muslims even if a Muslim Prime Minister like Najib Razak was corrupted and allegedly stole US$4.5 billion in the 1MDB scandal. Many Muslim Malays from the villages are brainwashed to vote for a Muslim leader and never a non-Muslim leader despite the Muslim politician’s lack of integrity, ethics or corrupted past.
For example Marie Osmond, one of the world’s most famous Mormons was voted in early rounds of “Dancing with the Stars” (2007) even though she should be eliminated earlier if she was not a Mormon. Another example is the Mormon support for Mitt Romney who was the Republican Party‘s nominee for President of the United States in the 2012 election.
I visited Nu Skins Headquarters regularly in Provo, Utah. I knew the top management of Nu Skin and the top ranking Nu Skin distributorleaders especially the Chinese/ Asian leaders.
Before the first General Manager of Nu Skin Hong Kong resigned, she revealed to me that it was no longer ethical to be the General Manager when I confronted her that there were countless hushed reports of skin rashes from the Nu Skin products. It was such a bad PR product scandal at the time.
Franklin gave the biggest discounts for Nu Skin Franklin time management trainings as Nu Skin was a mega business partnership.
In 1999, my late Portuguese wife Brenda José joined Amway’s Dexter Yager group who died on 7 January 2019 at the age of 79. She was recruited by her eldest brother Gerry De José who lives in New Jersey, USA. Gerry was a top RTHK 3 Radio DJ before emigrating to USA in 1995.
She tried to enroll her cousin Ricky who married “Fei Ma” Maria Cordero, the famous Macau Portuguese singer, entertainer, and TV chef host.

Robert was the Emcee for the Malaysian Association of Hong Kong’s Merdeka Ball 1993 with Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, the late Anita Mui, Maggie Yeung, and “Fei Ma” Maria Cordero. Jackie Chan’s then gay manager Willie Chan was from Ipoh, Malaysia.
Brenda and I spent a lot of money and time attending Dexter Yager Group Trainings, Business Opportunity Meetings, buying countless books, meeting visiting top Amway leaders like Mormon Amy Grant, and recruiting friends and relatives. As an Amway couple we did not rise in Amway ranking as we were more focused on our lucrative ChangeU learning and consulting firm. Obviously, Amway was super keen to have my CEO-Celebrity Whisperer’s connections and skills as a public speaker and top corporate trainer.

I strongly not recommend starting a MLM business, because the disadvantages far outweigh the benefits if any.
