Cases in point:

● Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan (born 15 August 1967) is the head of the Indian social group Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS) since 1990.

On 25 August 2017, Ram Rahim was convicted of rape by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court. His conviction led to widespread violence from members of the DSS, which left 31–38 DSS members dead from clashes with police and another 120–300 injured. On 28 August 2017, Ram Rahim was sentenced to 20 years in jail for rape. He has also faced prosecution for murder and ordering forced castrations.

● Former Chicago police officer Joseph Miedzianowski, whose slide from crime fighter to feared drug dealer earned him the reputation of being the most corrupt cop in the city’s history, was sentenced Friday to life in federal prison without the possibility of parole.

● Ashin Wirathu, nationalist monk known as the ‘Burmese bin Laden’ has been stopped from spreading hate on Facebook

● McCarrick in July became the first cardinal in living memory to resign his position in the church leadership after a review concluded that claims he had sexually abused a 16-year-old boy were credible.

He was one of the highest-ranking church officials accused of sex abuse in a scandal that has rocked the 1.2 billion-member faith since reports of priests abusing children and bishops covering up for them were reported by the Boston Globe in 2002.
