Found Lucky Money and The Man From AMCHAM Who Sat On My Hawker Street Table and Shared About Organizing Tun Mahathir Events

Found Lucky Money: I found a RM5 Banknote on a backstreet while pushing my punctured bicycle to a Pudu Kuala Lumpur bike shop on 13th October 2018 night.

 

 

Then a fortunate stroke of serendipity, a British official working at the American Malaysian Chamber Of Commerce (AMCHAM) sat on my small table at Pudu Wai Sek Kai Hawker Street. As he is the Political Attaché, we chatted about Malaysian Politics and General Election #14.

I shared I co-organized The Journey Event on Malaysia’s Day 2015 with Tun Mahathir, Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza, and AirAsia Datuk Kamarudin Meranun.

 

 

The Journey Event was 2 weeks after Tun Mahathir & Tun Siti appeared controversially for the first time to openly support BERSIH 4 Street Protest in 2015. Those were the early days before Tun joined the then Opposition Coalition.

As the Co-Organizer & Sponsor Bounce Back Malaysia (a ChangeU CSR initiative) and MC-Host, we were sacred that no one would dare to be seen to attend this public event. But back then in 2015 just about nobody wanted to be near Tun M.

Many corporations, GLCs, Government Departments and Universities were quietly advised and informed to boycott and not to attend the event. Thankfully it turned out to be a success with around 900 attendees.

People told us then we were so stupid, crazy, and risky to co-organize an event with Tun M. What a huge difference 3 years makes. No one could predict then that Tun M would join the Opposition, be accepted by his prodigy turned arch-enemy Anwar Ibrahim, and be the PM nominee – crazy idea but now it’s history!

 

The American Malaysian Chamber Of Commerce official shared that they too invited Tun Mahathir for their AGM on 28th June 2018 (over one and a half months after GE14). Tun did not reply so they finalized everything with another VIP guest. Three days before the event Tun Mahathir surprisingly accepted the invitation and they frantically changed plans.

AMCHAM had a completely opposite situation than The Journey Event as Tun Mahathir was in super demand after GE14 and the event had to be moved to a much larger venue but was limited to 250 pax, whereas my 2015 event Tun Mahathir was avoided by most people like a plague, but fortunately we had 900 pax audience in MMU Cyberjaya.
