Frenzy over Faye Wong and Nicholas Tse filmed kissing 10 years after break-up

Online footage suggesting pop star Faye Wong and actor Nicholas Tse Ting-fung have rekindled their love affair of a decade ago went viral yesterday – scoring more than 5.6 million views and prompting a frenzy of gossip.

The 45-year-old diva, who shot to fame in the film Chungking Express, was filmed kissing 34-year-old Tse in her Beijing home. The video uploaded yesterday on Sohu, the mainland’s answer to YouTube, was accompanied by an article claiming the pair had not gone out for four days.

Neither made any comments refuting the report, but Tse’s manager, Mani Fok Man-hei, claimed the footage was an intrusion of privacy and illegal.

Wong and Tse had a four-year relationship that ended 10 years ago. Tse went on to marry actress Cecilia Cheung Pak-chi in 2006 and they had two sons, but they divorced in 2011 – after Cheung was embroiled in the 2008 Edison Chen scandal, with explicit photos of her and the musician leaked online.

Wong had a daughter during her three-year marriage to Dou Wei, which ended in 1999. She went on to marry actor Li Yapeng in 2005 and have a second daughter. They divorced last year.

Last night the revived Wong-Tse relationship had the gossips divided. Critics blasted the couple’s chaotic love life, claiming they had little consideration for their children. The most popular comment on Sohu voiced strong disapproval of Wong, while more than 4,000 users sympathised with Cheung.

“It’s such a mess. Why didn’t they marry each other in the beginning?” asked one user who denounced the entertainment world as “disgusting”.

Others applauded the romance, citing it as an example of true love. “Both of them are single, so what’s wrong with them getting back together?” one Golden Forum user wrote.
